Preparation and Execution
Before beginning your survey, please prepare by printing a copy of the survey and gathering all the necessary financial, inventory, and salary reports for the appropriate fiscal year (see survey schedule above).
If there are questions that you can’t answer precisely and you need to estimate a number or percentage, all we ask is that you be conscientious about your educated guess. We want to ensure the most accurate information for tabulation. Please take the time to make sure your data is complete and consistent.

A Note About Fiscal Years
We know that there are as many fiscal year schedules as there are variety of publishers. Our rationale for scheduling the surveys around the fiscal year is that, hopefully, much of what the survey asks for is already in your fiscal reports. So when we ask for the first half of a fiscal year, we want data from the first six months (or first two quarters) of that particular year, whenever that is for you. It doesn’t matter if your fiscal calendar is Sept-Aug or Jan-Dec, report data that falls within the indicated fiscal year.
If there is still confusion, please email the PubWest Industry Statistics Committee chair for further clarification before proceeding.
Confidentiality
PubWest guarantees the confidentiality of survey data. To protect your information further, please do not include the name of your publishing house or subsidiaries anywhere within the survey itself. Our third-party survey service will check the survey for completeness and tabulate your responses.
Survey Ownership
If these kinds of metrics are beneficial to you, keep in mind that the more often you are able to participate (and the more of you who participate) the better the quality of the results will be. PubWest is committed to facilitating valuable benefits to its membership; you can signal to us that the Huenefeld-PubWest survey is valuable to you by participating and spreading the word!
